Strawberry Jam 2023

Strawberry Jam 2023

Friday, June 2, 2023 (5:00 PM - 10:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

The Troy Area Chamber of Commerce is ready to celebrate everything strawberry! The Chamber invites residents to join them for Strawberry Jam – A Hometown Celebration on Friday, June 2. The evening will kick off with a ribbon cutting with the Mayor and the Troy Chamber Ambassadors at approximately 5:00 pm, followed by the dying of the fountain. The evening will feature The Growlers Band in concert at 6:00 pm on Prouty Plaza. The Growlers are a true Classic Rock Party Band. Formed in 2015, the band still retains its three founding members - Bobby Von Derau / Bass & Vocals, Jon Helsinger / Drums, and Randy Prudden / Guitar & Vocals. Based out of Lake Lakengren, that trio spent the first six years honing their sound playing clubs, events, private parties, and fundraisers all over southwest Ohio, and built a large and faithful following in the process. They have also opened for national and regional acts like The Spin Doctors, Jay Jesse Johnson, and Rumors. More recently, they added a strong local tie for the band, when they added a fourth member - Greg Welker / Keyboards & Vocals. Greg is a life-long resident of Troy, and is super excited to have the rare opportunity to play to a home-town crowd. This will be the first time The Growlers have ever played in Troy and and the first time Greg has played the festival since he was there with his band, Silent Partner, in 1986, and it promises to be a great time! Together, this group of four accomplished musicians and vocalists have taken their act to the next level, with an eclectic song catalog that covers some of the greatest classic rock standards from the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s, with a few surprises along the way. (Their rocked up version of Ring Of Fire is always a big hit!) 2022 also saw a shift in focus towards playing more festivals and community concert series. They have taken their high energy, family-friendly show to places like The Fraze Chicken Wing Festival, JD Legends, Celina Summer Concert Series, Preble County Pork Festival, Richmond Hippie Fest, Lake Lakengren A&E Summer Concert Series, and a long list of area clubs, just to name a few. Opening the evening will be local musician, Shay Hayden, doing a solo acoustic set. Shay graduated in 2011 from Piqua and has been playing with bands and as a solo performer for the past 14 years. Most recently, he joined “More Than A Feeling / A Tribute To Boston” as a guitar player and lead singer. In addition to music, Strawberry Jam will feature activities for children, downtown shops and restaurants will be open late, and a limited number of Strawberry Festival vendors will be open to give the public a preview of the festival.
