Saturday, October 26, 2024 (1:00 PM - 3:00 PM) (EDT)
Description
The Museum of Troy History and Hayner Distilling are presenting the History of Hayner Distilling with Walking Tour and Tasting on Saturday October 26, 2024 from 1 - 3 pm. Tickets to the fundraising event are $25 and must be purchased from Eventbrite. This is a fundraising event for the museum and 100% of the sales go to the Museum of Troy History. The event begins in the St Patrick Soup Kitchen at 25 N. Mulberry Street in Troy. We will start with a slideshow presentation on the history of Hayner Distilling from Doug Tremblay of the Museum of Troy History. We will travel back in time to 1866 when Hayner began along the banks of the Great Miami River. We'll review their tremendous growth into the nations largest mail order whiskey business until prohibition shut the doors in 1920. After the slideshow we take a short walking tour of Hayner buildings still standing and the remnants of buildings long gone. The event concludes on the second floor of a 115 year old Hayner Distilling building for a presentation and bourbon tasting with Greg Taylor from Hayner Distilling. Greg will share how the new Hayner Distilling was revived and you will have the chance to try the new Hayner Bourbon alongside other Hayner spirits. (Non alcoholic drinks and snacks will also be available.) NOTE: The walking part of the tour involves walking over uneven surfaces, railroad tracks, and up steps. For the first hour of the event we will be seated in a handicap accessible building. The bourbon tasting takes place on the second floor of an old Hayner building that is not handicap accessible. All tickets should be purchased through this Eventbrite website. For questions contact the Museum of Troy History at 937-339-5155. (Do not contact Hayner Distilling.) (The photo below shows two large Hayner barrel houses along the river. The barrel house on the left is on Pearson Court, the barrel house on the right is where Hobart Cabinet now stands. The barrel houses hold 100,000 whiskey barrels. The original distillery is located between those buildings on the west side of the railroad tracks. St Patrick's church can be seen at the bottom center.)
